Pistol Shooting … “The Sport”

Pistol shooting is a dynamic and exciting sport. If you become a member of Rotorua Pistol Club you will be able to shoot the 5 most action packed sport shooting disciplines/matches shot in New Zealand, on the best range facilities in the Southern Hemisphere. The disciplines/matches that the Rotorua Pistol Club specialises in are;   IPSC   (Practical Shooting),   3-Gun   (Practical Shooting using Pistol, Rifle & Shotgun),  Steel Challenge  (Speed Steel Shooting),  Service Pistol  (Target Shooting within specific times.) and   Pistol Carbine   (Pistol fitted into a short rifle type frame, both Speed & Practical Shooting)

New Shooters Pack Provided: 

  • PNZ Shooters Handbook
  • Membership application form
  • Information on the process of becoming endorsed to own a pistol
  • A training schedule
  • An attendance card
  • A set of RPC standing range orders
  • A copy of the safety test
  • A copy of the policy for range etiquette
  • Information on firearms safety
  • If you do not hold a current firearms licence you will receive a NZ Firearms code.

All necessary information will be provided in via return email. Please read the information provided carefully. Once you have read the information provided, contact the secretary again, who will arrange a time to visit the range and be meet by a current member.

This club member will give you a tour of the range facilities, an explanation of the basics do’s and don’ts of range etiquette, along with a chance to have a shoot

As a New Club Member:

You must attend 12 shoots within a 6 month probationary period, during which time you must complete the training and relevant safety courses, after which you can then apply for your B category endorsement (Pistol License)

Applying for your B Category Endorsement: (Pistol license)

The committee must approve your application for a B category endorsement prior to your application being lodged to Pistol NZ and NZ Police. You will be required to meet the following listed crittera.

  • A current New Zealand firearms license
  • To have completed 12 recorded shoots in your attendance sheet
  • To have passed the NZPA Safety Club Range Officers test

Maintaining your Pistol License:

In order to retain your B category license, you must attend a minimum of 12 club events per calendar year.
